Another lesson learned yesterday. Noriko and I were having a conversation about something and I heard her say “every day”. When I said something like “you say this happens every day”, she replied “no, you didn’t listen and don’t remember, I said ‘every year'”.
Fortunately, we were recording this Zoom call, so we were able to go back-to-the-tape and see what was actually said.
Completely astonishing for me, Noriko did not say “every day”, nor did she say “every year”…instead she actually said “every week“. We both heard incorrectly and differently!
I’ve never been a fan of recording conversations because I thought it would take too much time to replay them and I’m always busy… but yesterday I became a fan. If not a fan, at least I understand that it can be a powerful communication tool.
I also learned how easy it is to mistake what the other person is trying to say. How frustrating for the other person!
